These terms must be agreed to if you are to commission Laura Whent. These terms apply to personal commissions only, and not freelance/work-for-hire. If you commission Laura, it is assumed that you have read all of the following and accept the terms. Failure to read these terms does not exempt a commissioner from abiding by them.

Real names. All business transactions, including commissions, are conducted using real names. I will not disclose your real name or contact information to anybody. If you insist on only being known by a pseudonym even in the paperwork, I'd rather that you take your business elsewhere. A commission is a business transaction, and I expect it to be treated as such by the commissioner.

Age of commissioner. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to commission me. If under 18, the commissioner must state their age prior to work beginning on the commission. If you are a minor and commission me without your parent/guardian's permission, all the other rules outlined here apply and a refund will only be given under the same guidelines as any other commissioner. If a refund must be given because of parents not approving, I am entitled to taking the appropriate fees out to cover my losses and/or the amount of work already completed.

Acceptable content. I will do most things that fall into the PG-13 rating. Skimpy clothing is fair game, so is playful teasing and innuendo. Minor kinks and fetishes may be acceptable as long as they stay in the realm of PG-13, but will be judged on a case by case basis. I won't be offended if you ask, as long as you aren't offended if I refuse the commission. Violence may be acceptable, but will be judged on a case by case basis. Tasteful/artistic nudity may be considered depending on the subject matter, but as a general rule I do not draw genitals and/or nipples, regardless of how artistic the posing is intended to be.

Unacceptable content. I will not do adult content. Strong fetish themes are not acceptable. I will not draw copyrighted characters unless full written permission is given by the owner of the character. I may be lenient on that point if the character is owned by a friend and you are commissioning a gift, but under no circumstances will I draw characters from movies, games, comics etc.

Strong points and weak points. All artists have strong points and weak points. Please keep mine in mind when you consider commissioning me. My strong points are animal-based fantasy creatures and monsters. I can draw most critters, but in particular I'm most comfortable with drawing felines and dragons. While I can draw humans and human-based races (elves, fauns, centaurs), I am not as good at them as I am with more animal based creatures. I am weak with full backgrounds in general, but I am better at nature scenes than I am at cityscapes or heavy perspective-based views. I'm willing to give things like high-tech weapons, guns and sci-fi elements a try, but be warned that I'm not very good at them.

Right to refuse. I reserve the right to refuse any commission without an explanation. Typically, if I refuse a commission it will be because my commission terms have been ignored, or I feel uncomfortable with the subject matter the would-be commissioner wants. This includes being uncomfortable with drawing fetish material. As a general notice, I am by no means judgemental of the tastes of others, however, I will not draw things that I am either uncomfortable with or will prevent me from getting work in the real-world art and animation industry. Refusal of a commission is nothing personal.

Copyright. The copyrights to commissioned artwork remain with me, which means I alone have the right to make prints or publish the image (for profit or otherwise). Aside from prints and being displayed in my professional portfolio, commissions may end up in my annual printed sketchbooks. The commissioner has my permission to display the drawing at low resolution online (with credit to me) and make icons or wallpaper for themselves using the commissioned artwork (again, with credit to me). The commissioner may not post the image at high resolution anywhere, post it anywhere without credit to me, alter the work (aside from using it to create icons or wallpaper for personal use), or make prints without my permission. Fees can be negiotiated and a contract stating the terms written up if the commissioner doesn't want their piece included as part of my printed sketchbook or to be made into prints, but I will always reserve the right to display the piece online and as part of my professional portfolio. If the commissioner wishes to make a "no prints" agreement or any other form of agreement regarding copyrights, the agreement must be made before the piece in question is started. Once the piece is started, my standard claims to the art as outlined above are non-negotiable.

Payment policy. Full payment is required up front for commissions under $50. No exceptions. If the commission is $50 or higher, a minimum of half the total price is required up front, and the remainder will be required after the sketch is done. If payment isn't received, work will not start/continue on your commission.

Cancelling commissions. If a commissioner wishes to end a commission, I will give a partial refund based on the amount of work already completed. This is judged on a case-by-case basis, and I will do my best to be fair both to myself and the commissioner. My time is worth something too, and if I've invested time in a piece you decide halfway through that you don't want, I still deserve compensation for the time I spent on it. Likewise, I reserve the right to cancel a commission if the commissioner proves to be too difficult to work with or if the commissioner disappears and is impossbile to contact for an extended period of time. A partial refund based on the amount of work completed will apply if I need to cancel the commission as well.

Research clause. If a commission requires research to be done, extra charges will apply. The more research I need to do at the request of the commissioner, the higher the research fee. The best way to avoid this is that if you have anything in your piece that needs to be very specific, provide me with image links or links to webpages with the relevant information.

Partner/friend clause. If a piece is commissioned with the intent of it being of or for a friend or significant other, payment is due regardless of the status of the relationship when the piece is completed. If the commissioner cancels before the piece is finished, the partial refund rule for cancellations applies.

Excessive changes clause. I am an artist, not a mind reader. I will do a limited number of changes to a sketch before additional fees will be charged. Fair warning will be given if this is being abused. If I have to start from scratch more than two times, an additional fee of $10 for each new sketch thereafter. It is up to you, the commissioner, to describe your idea as accurately as possible. But even then I can not see the image exactly as you see it in your head, only do my best interpretation of it based on how you describe it to me.
